barn

We’ve been in some great Adirondack and rustic homes, and this one is very unique and one of our favorites.  Even better, it’s for sale.

The Barn on Chestnut Ridge, located in a picturesque part of Queensbury is a 100 year old dairy barn that has been restored, check out more here.

The Glens Falls Ballet and Dance Center put on a treat for the Downtown Glens Falls Trick or Treat. The did a Thriller number in front of the Charles R. Wood Theater, which is also right across from our office. Which was convenient for one of our cameras.

News Release from Bateaux Below:

Copy of letter received

Copy of letter received

On August 3, Joseph W. Zarzynski, Underwater Archaeologist and Executive Director of Bateaux Below, Inc., received a letter dated July 29, 2009 from First Lady Michelle Obama and the White House recognizing the “Volunteers of Bateaux Below, Inc.” as a recipient of a “Preserve America Steward” designation.  According to the Preserve America web site, Bateaux Below and its volunteers were one of only 2 recipients nationwide of this prestigious recognition.  The underwater archaeology and historic preservation not-for-profit corporation was also the only group from New York state recognized by the federal award.  The honor recognizes Bateaux Below and its volunteers for their exemplary volunteer efforts caring for the historic resources in Lake George.  The research team has spent the last 22 years studying the lake’s shipwrecks and implementing programs that promote historic preservation of these finite cultural resources.

The “Preserve America Steward” award recognizes the efforts of Bateaux Below’s 11 volunteers: Dr. Russell Bellico, Bob Benway, Vince Capone, Terry Crandall, John Farrell, Steven C. Resler, Peter Pepe, Paul Cornell, Elinor Mossop, Dr. Sam Bowser, and Joseph W. Zarzynski.
Preserve America is “a federal initiative that encourages and supports community efforts to preserve and enjoy” the nation’s “priceless cultural and natural heritage.”
The First Lady serves as the Honorary Chair for Preserve America.  The First Lady’s letter thanked Bateaux Below’s volunteers for all that they do “to care for our Nation’s important historic resources.”  The Preserve America Stewards website features a description of Bateaux Below’s volunteerism.

We can’t think of anybody more deserving of an award of this honor than the people of Bateaux Below. Congratulations to you all!

It’s not just kids who have dusted off the bikes and waited for this weather. The Tour of the Battenkill bike race takes place this weekend in Washington County. Should be a great weekend event, we’ll be there, find the route and where to watch here:
